Raymond Hyatt, PhD

Dr. Raymond R. Hyatt is a medical sociologist who studies the effects of the social construction of families and communities on health outcomes. His work focuses on the role that social capital, family units, and community organizations play in the production of health. Dr. Hyatt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and Family Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. His current research examines the effects of community on childhood obesity. His prior research, at Abt Associates, Inc. in Cambridge, MA and Brown University, focused on the definition of social capital and its effect on both individual health behavior and community health outcomes. He holds a BS in applied mathematics and economics from Brown University, an MS in mathematics from MIT and a PhD in sociology from Brown University.
