The rapid rise in obesity and the decline in physical fitness over the last thirty years have led to deterioration in public health. The consequences affect all segments of society, diminishing quality of life and threatening the health of present and future generations. This trend must be reversed.

Our Vision

We envision communities where all children and adults naturally engage in physical activity and enjoy nutritious foods, thereby achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight and fitness level.

The John Hancock Research Center on Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Obesity Prevention is a leading force in realizing this vision. We use a transdisciplinary approach to conduct innovative research, train future leaders, catalyze change through community-level capacity building, and drive public policy to create and sustain healthy environments.
